AmTrykes, Bicycles for Mobility Challenged Riders

AmTrykes are modified bicycles from AMBUCS, an organization dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities. This December, they are soliciting donations to provide free AmTrykes to over 450 people on their wish list.

Silas Martin of Decatur, Illinois, received one of these vehicles.

Caribou, Maine, Thrift Store Strives to Help Families Coping with Ill Children

Cindy and Christian Johnson started a second-hand store in Maine as a way to raise money for families caring for a sick child. Their own son, Caleb, has NF1 and the Johnsons, thankful for all the help and support that they’ve received over the years, are taking donated items into this store, named The Cubby, and offering them for sale. The money collected will benefit other families in need of assistance.

Support Group Forms in Victoria, Australia

The Hay Family is starting a support group in the city of Bendigo in Australia. This is reportedly the first NF support group for the Victoria area of the country.

NASCAR favorite Kenny Wallace is announced as the forth driver in the 2011 Rolex 24 endurance race. Ron Yarab, Daniel Graeff, and Pierre Bourque have all driven the race before and will look to help the rookie along.

The team will compete as a part of the Racing4Reaseach program.

Manny Evans’s Helicopter Ride

Manny Evans is 7 years old and lives at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital full time. His NF causes so many complications that life outside the hospital is just not possible.

Friends of the family, many of the hospital staff, and community members pitch in to help Manny have memorable outings whenever possible.
